Give Shannon's Plan a Chance? PDF Print E-mail

Well, he did WIN. That is a mandate for his plan. Well, isn't it?

We haven't done a lot of "absolutely wonderful" at all, let alone in existing neighborhoods. Maybe the spot redevelopment idea will be better accepted and more successful than the redevelopment that starts with clear-cutting the whole neighborhood?

Control Growth Now, Thanks! PDF Print E-mail

Thanks to Control Growth Now for endorsing my candidacy! It sometimes seems that CGN is the only voice of restraint remaining as, one seat after another, the government appears to be selling out to "business". Don't get me started on "the press" . . .

But do the neighborhoods have to give up? It is certainly getting hard to fight with both the government and the press sold out.

Diana raised $9788.00 as of last report. Shannon raised $6928.70. I raised $946.32.

How much did you contribute? Don't be ashamed to tell yourself the truth! How much do you think came from outside of the district?

Pension Obligation is a Top Priority PDF Print E-mail

Those of you who are concerned about City Pensions: "They" can't just cut your pension. "They" might try to twist your arm to get you to voluntarily switch to another plan, but if that were to happen it would hurt you and in the short term would not help the city. My recommendation to you and the City is to leave things as they are for retirees and vested employees.

Diana's Tax Plan, Shannon's Tax Plan, My Budget Cut Plan PDF Print E-mail

Diana is straight outspoken, a self-proclaimed "liberal" - "honest" she calls it. She declared that she will directly raise the tax rate by whatever it takes to fund Police pensions, Police are "special risk". She said she was going to fund downtown and the arts to the hilt as well, agreeing, with four or five others, to the suggestion that $100 million to the arts would return $700 million to the community. Not to forget trees, 280 which she has already hand-watered with a bucket herself. Finally, a few mills from you and me to encourage "business", such as her friend's bed and breakfast in Laurel Park.

Shannon is more circumspect, thus his plan requires a lot of thought to understand. To explain it in more direct words than he, the neighborhood is prompted to identify eyesore properties within it that are then redeveloped in the grandest of grand scale "absolutely wonderful".

Representing Yourself in Representative Democracy PDF Print E-mail

We have a Representative Democracy in Sarasota, as does most of the United States. This is distinct from a Direct Democracy.

We periodically elect representatives to vote on issues that affect us. If we had a Direct Democracy we would vote on those issues ourselves in, say, monthly elections. That is why we voted down $14 million for baseball only to see $32 million be spent, on baseball. Made perfect sense to our "representatives", and no sense at all to us.

No Joke Article on Pensions PDF Print E-mail

"Dead Serious", folks, put out the cat and wrap your feet in a blanket for this one. No jokes, just business.

To begin with, Sarasota HAS a pension plan. Sarasota Police have a defined benefit plan with COLA. That is the good news. Bad news? With the economic downturn over the last few years, "they" want to gut the pension plan to buy cool new stuff, kid-in-toy-store fashion.

Hi, I'm Pete Theisen. I am a retired Acupuncturist. I have from time to time held various other jobs. I have an undergraduate degree in Social Work and I have worked as a Community Organizer. I have also been a business owner, owning several auto repair and refinish shops. In the late 70s I qualified as a Master Mechanic. I have extensive experience with non-profit organizations and four years on the Public Housing Staff of the City of Detroit.

We need jobs in Sarasota – BUT we have to be careful that what we support with public money to create jobs, actually WILL create jobs. Most of the proposals only create one job, the usually lush job created for the person proposing the proposal! OK, sometimes the proposal will include a receptionist and maybe even an assistant – but the rest will be temps from out of town who never actually live here. That and a lawyer or two.

City Commission, Feb 7, 2011 PDF Print E-mail

Hello, I am Pete Theisen. I have appeared before this body before.

Several years ago, after endless discussion and I dare say conflict, this body approved a site plan for the ever Notorious School Avenue Project. Although approved, the project is yet to be even started. The buildings remaining on the site are evidently unsecured and frequented by underworld figures of various description.

This attractive nuisance has alarmed the homeowners who live nearby.

Majoring in the Minors PDF Print E-mail

The City has recently had a staff discussion about "pre 93" health care benefits. The amount that is projected to be collected this year from the affected people is about $507,600.

By way of explanation, the pre 93 people are employees and retirees from the City of Sarasota who worked for reduced wages (relative to what people elsewhere were earning) in exchange for a promise of city paid lifelong health insurance. You guessed it, the City administration wants to default on the bet.
