I thought everybody knew that our city has two layers of money and property "accountability". Internal audits as specified in the City Charter and Independent Audits conducted by outside firms. However, someone recently called for "more accountability" . . . "bring in actual business people to analyze everything". Hmm. City Auditor and Clerk Pamela Nadalini did come to the city with an "Actual Business" background, having served the financial accounting of a popular and successful local restaurant until the owners retired. Since joining the city auditor and clerk office she has participated in, and now supervises, all the internal audits of city departments every year as directed by the City Commission as specified in the City Charter. The frequency of the internal audits are at least annual, more often at the request of the City Commission. The outside audit has been annual as well. I trust Pamela Nadalini to get it right. I can tell you she makes me list every penny! |
