I have talked about this in the past. How can those who expect people to give up their cars expect this, given the state of public transportation?

It should be noted that the folks wanting you to give up your car will not be giving up their car, sort of like Al Gore's heat and AC bill. But, to business.

You walk a mile to the bus stop and just miss the bus. You wait an hour for the next one. Then you wait another hour for the second bus. While on the second bus you start to feel like you need to use the facilities, of which the bus has none. Then you walk another mile to your destination, if you get lucky you find a facility somewhere in that mile. Can anyone be serious when they ask that we approve mega-million projects with a bus stop for "concurrency"?

Well, I suggested a neighborhood golf cart service to solve the first and last mile problem the last time, if we really want to make public transportation attractive. Now there is a new alternative being imported to the US, the Tuk Tuk, by Tuk Tuk North America, Inc..

Tuk Tuk

Some people might prefer this to a golf cart. Has a certain similarity to the vehicles current being used by parking enforcement. It is a little faster than a golf cart so maybe . . .

The Tuk Tuk can be had in either an electric or gas version, and meets US DOT and emissions. 52 miles per gallon in gas.

Not enough miles per gallon? The Pedicab, this one from Main Street Pedicabs, doesn't use any gas at all!

 Pedicab

There are a couple of similar units being used by entrepreneurs already in Sarasota. These would be effective for short trips to local destinations such as stores, restaurants and bus stops.

Oh, yeah. Implementing this would create 200 local jobs.
